Rachel graduated as a veterinary surgeon from Edinburgh University and entered small animal practice where she soon developed an interest in small animal dentistry. Since 2010, her clinical practice has been limited to small animal dentistry and oral surgery; providing clinical referral work, continuing education and consultancy services. During the course of her residency training she spent time in California, Wisconsin and South Africa as well as the U.K.

In 2012 she became a member of the dentistry chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists by passing the small animal dentistry and oral surgery examination. In 2016 she passed the European Veterinary Dental College Board examinations to become a Diplomate and European Veterinary Specialist in veterinary dentistry. She was granted RCVS Specialist status in 2017. She now sits on the Examination Committee of the European Veterinary Dental College.

Rachel has lectured nationally and internationally and published original research and review articles in journals, textbooks and online platforms, and is regularly involved in online and in-house teaching for under- and post-graduate vets and nurses across the country. She also regularly tends to the oral health of zoo and sanctuary animals, and has treated bears, cheetahs, tigers, snow leopards, lemurs, a fossa, leopard, gibbon, vicuña and a gorilla!
