Nursing

Nursing

Nursing care is an essential part of the treatment patients receive at our hospital and we are very proud of the high standards of the nursing care we provide. Each patient receives individual nursing care dependent on their needs, which helps optimise their recovery.

Our nursing team are all registered veterinary nurses who are often very experienced in general practice before joining us and developing more specialist nursing skills. Many have passed further advanced qualifications in veterinary nursing. Some of our nurses have further specialised within specific areas such as medicine, neurology and theatre nursing.

It is a requirement of veterinary nurses registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons to continue to develop their knowledge of the most up to date and safe ways of treating patients.

The roles of the veterinary nurses within the hospital are diverse but include

  • Day-to-day nursing care of patients
  • Administering medication
  • Obtaining blood samples
  • Monitoring blood transfusions
  • Providing physiotherapy
  • Performing some diagnostic procedures
  • Maintaining and monitoring anaesthesia
  • Preparing patients for surgical procedures
  • Maintaining the operating theatres
  • Assisting surgeons with surgical procedures

The nursing team are supported by a dedicated team of nursing assistants who help provide the best nursing care and keep the hospital immaculate. The nursing assistants walk and groom patients, prepare food, feed patients and assist the nurses with procedures.
